Thematically though I much prefer EW. Shooting down invading UFOs and fighting a war like that is a theme, and not a story, and as such can be done over and over again.

On impossible difficulty, the country you did not help will increase in panic by +2 (in addition to +1 to every country within that continent). There's an INI file that contains the exact numbers. Do note that in the INI files, "hard" actually means "classic" and "classic" means "impossible". This explains a lot of game over i got.
